Venkaiah Naidu Released Postage Stamp to Commemorate 750th Birth Anniversary of Sri Vedanta Desikan
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu released a postage stamp to commemorate the 750th birth anniversary of Sri Vedanta Desikan in New Delhi on 2nd May 2019.
The postage stamps inspire the younger generation to practice humanism, peace and compassion propagated by the great saint and spiritual icon.
Vedanta Desikan was Sri Vaishnava philosopher and one of the most brilliant stalwarts of Sri Vaishnavism in the post-Ramanuja period.
Thailand’s King Vajiralongkorn Crowned
On 4th May 22019, Thailand has crowned its new King Maha Vajiralongkorn, Rama X of Thailand, marking the first ascension of a new monarch in seven decades.
King Vajiralongkorn is the tenth monarch of the Chakri dynasty which has reigned since 1782. The last coronation was held in 1950 for the king’s father Bhumibol Adulyadej.
World Bank Gives $545 Million for Cyclone-Hit Southern Africa
The World Bank will extend a total of up to USD 545 million to Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi – the three countries hit by Cyclone Idai in March 2019.
Cyclone Idai devastated the port city of Beira and its surrounding areas and killed more than 600 people. After that Cyclone Kenneth, lashed the northern coastal regions of Mozambique which killed 41 people.
Mozambique will receive 350 million US dollar from the total aid, will use the funds to rebuild water supply systems and damaged public infrastructure.
Malawi will get 120 million US dollar while Zimbabwe will receive 75 million US dollar for social welfare programmes for cyclone victims.
Indian Navies Missile Destroyer INS Ranjit to Be Decommissioned on May 6
The Indian Navy’s frontline missile destroyer, INS Ranjit will be decommissioned at the naval dockyard in Visakhapatnam on May 6, 2019 after having served for 36 years.
It was the third of the five Kashin-class destroyers built by erstwhile USSR and was commissioned in 1983.
Government Clears Rs 3600 crore Deal with Russia for 10 Kamov-31 Choppers
Defence ministry has approved Rs 3,600 crore deal for buying around 10 Kamov Ka-31 Airborne Early Warning and Control helicopters for the aircraft carrier operations of the Indian Navy.
The 10 helicopters would be deployed on the aircraft carriers and warships of the Indian Navy.

Vodafone Idea has signed a five-year multi-million-dollar IT outsourcing deal with IBM to enhance its business efficiency and reduce IT-related costs.
The collaboration will provide Vodafone Idea with a hybrid cloud-based digital platform, enabling more intimate engagement with customers, enhancing business efficiency, agility and scale.

NIOS Signs MoU with Indian Medical Association for Imparting Skill Education in Paramedical Courses
The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Indian Medical Association for imparting skill education in Paramedical Courses to the learners.
The MoU is initially for period of three years for the paramedical courses all over the country through its Accredited Vocational Institutions (AVIs).

Chief Economic Advisor Krishnamurthy Subramanian Appointed As Member of Advisory Council of 15th Finance Commission
The Chief Economic Advisor to Central government, Dr. Krishnamurthy Subramanian has been included as the member of the Advisory Council of the Fifteenth Finance Commission.
He will be the twelfth Member of the Council.
The role and function of the Council is to advise the Commission on any issue or subject related to the Terms of Reference (ToR) of the Commission.
US Air Force General Tod Wolters Sworn in As NATO Commander
US Air Force General Tod D. Wolters has been sworn in as the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) of the 29-nation NATO military alliance at NATO’s military headquarters in Mons, southern Belgium.
He replaces U.S. Army General Curtis M. Scaparrotti and he will also be commander of U.S. forces in Europe.
The Supreme Allied Commander Europe post has always been held by an American military officer.
Star Wars Fame Peter Mayhew Passes Away
The legendary actor, Peter Mayhew who is best known for playing Chewbacca in the “Star Wars” film series passed away at the age of 74.
