GRSE to Build 8 Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Watercraft for Indian Navy

On 29th April 2019, Defence Ministry and Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited signed a contract to build eight anti-submarine warfare shallow water crafts (ASWSWCs) for Indian Navy.

The contract value for these eight vessels is Rs 6311.32 crore.

The vessels will be equipped with highly advanced state-of-the-art integrated platform management systems including propulsion machinery, auxiliary machinery, power generation and distribution machinery and damage control machinery etc.

Wipro Acquires Philippines Largest Personal Care Company ‘Splash’

Wipro Consumer Care signed an agreement to acquire Splash Corporation, a Philippines-based personal care company.

The acquisition is to strengthen the company’s consumer care portfolio in personal care and complete the South-East Asian footprint.

Splash is the largest personal care player in the Philippines, recorded revenues worth $80 million in 2018.

India was World’s Fourth Biggest Military Spender in 2018

According to new data think tank Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), India was the world’s fourth biggest military spender in 2018 behind the United States, China, and Saudi Arabia.

In 2017, India was the fifth largest military spender where in 2018 its military spending rose by 3.1% to $66.5 billion.

Total world military expenditure rose to $1,822 billion in 2018.

Golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar Wins Outstanding Achievement As Player Award

Arjuna awardee and star Indian golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar won the outstanding achievement as a player award at the fourth edition of the annual India Golf Industry Association (GIA) awards at the Delhi Golf Club.

Bhullar won the 2018 Fiji International, a European Tour event and also holds the rare distinction of becoming the youngest golfer on the Asian Tour to achieve nine career victories on tour.

Air Marshal Bhadauria to Take Charge As Vice Chief of the Air Force

Air Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria will take over as the Vice Chief of Indian Air Force from May 1, 2019 succeeding Air Marshal Anil Khosla who is superannuating on April 30, 2019.

Presently, Bhadauria is the Chief of IAF’s Bengaluru-based Training Command since August 1, 2018.

Dominic Thiem Wins Barcelona Open 2019

Dominic Thiem (Austria) won the Barcelona Open 2019 after defeating Daniil Medvedev (Russia) at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.

He became just the fourth player in the past 15 years to lift the title in Barcelona, joining Rafael Nadal, Kei Nishikori and Fernando Verdasco.

He is also the first Austrian winner at this event since Thomas Muster in 1996.

Eliud Kipchoge Won the London Marathon 2019 Title

On 28th April 2019, Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge clinched his fourth men’s London Marathon 2019 title in a time of 2:02:37 by defeating Mosinet Geremew and Mule Wasihun at London, UK.

Kenyan Brigid Kosgei won the women’s title in 2:18:20. She defeated Vivian Cheruiyot and Roza Dereje.

Bajrang Punia to Become First Indian Wrestler to Fight At Madison Square Garden

Bajrang Punia is set to become the first wrestler from India to fight at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York.

He is the first Indian wrestler to be invited by the American governing body. He will take on two-time US national champion Yianni Diakomahlis at the “Grapple at the Garden – Beat the Streets” fight on May 6, 2019.

Indian Para-Athletes Clinch Medals At Asian Road Para-Cycling Championships 2019

Indian Para-athletes secure a silver and two bronze medals at the Asian Road Para-cycling championships 2019 at Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Divij Shah clinched silver while Asian Para Games bronze medallist Gurlal Singh and Hand cyclist Sudhakar Marathe claimed bronze.
