International Dance Day is a global celebration of dance takes place every year on April 29, the birth anniversary of Jean-Georges Noverre, the creator of modern ballet.

The day was created by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute, the main partner for the performing arts of UNESCO.

Cyclone ‘Fani’ Intensifies Over Bay of Bengal

According to the Cyclone Warning Division of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the deep depression over southeast Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclonic storm, named ‘Fani’.

It is likely to hit Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu by April 30 as it intensified into a severe storm and trigger thunderstorms, gusty winds and moderate rains.

Cyclone Fani currently lays over east Equatorial Indian Ocean (EIO) and adjoining the southeast Bay of Bengal.

Govt Plans to Launch GST e-invoices to Curb Tax Evasion

The government plans to introduce a system where businesses above a certain turnover threshold will have to generate e-invoice on government or GST portal for every sale to curb tax evasion.

The proposed system of e-invoice (form of electronic billing) will eventually replace the requirement of generation of e-way bill for movement of goods.

Lebanon Sets New Guinness World Record

Lebanon’s capital Beirut has set a new Guinness World Record for the number of national flags raised in a city for 24 hours.

The Beirut Alive Association in the national capital raised a total of 26,852 Lebanese flags breaking New York’s Waterloo record of 25,599 flags.

The event was organised under the patronage of Prime Minister Saad Hariri.

Indian Navy Ships Reach South Korea to Participate in ADMM-Plus

On 28th April 2019, Indian naval ships Kolkata and Shakti arrived at South Korea’s Busan to participate in the ADMM-Plus Maritime Security Field Training Exercise (FTX) as part of deployment of the Eastern Fleet to the South China Sea.

The ADMM-Plus is a platform for ASEAN and its eight dialogue partners to strengthen security and defence cooperation for peace, stability and development in the region.

Jacques Kallis Receives Ikhamanga Award 2019

Former South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis has been honoured with the Order of Ikhamanga in the Silver Division from the South Africa Presidency for his contribution to cricket and placing the team on the world sporting map.

He played 166 Tests, 328 ODIs and 25 T20Is, returning 62 hundreds and 577 wickets.

The national honour is bestowed by the President of South Africa on citizens who have made significant contributions to arts, literature, music, journalism, culture, and sports.

Virgil van Dijk and Vivianne Miedema win PFA Player of the Year awards

Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk who’s performance has brought Liverpool in the hunt for their first premier league title won the Professional Football Association’s (PFA) men’s player of the year award.

Vivianne Miedema who helped Arsenal clinch their first Women’s Super League title won the Professional Football Association’s (PFA) women’s player of the year award.

Manchester city’s Raheem Sterling won the PFA Young Player of the year award.


Valtteri Bottas wins Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2019

On 28th April 2019, Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) beat Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) to win the Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2019 held at the Baku City Circuit in Baku, Azerbaijan.

With this, Mercedes became the first team to win the opening four races of an F1 season with one-two finishes.

Petra Kvitova Wins Maiden Porsche Grand Prix 2019

World number three tennis player Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic beat Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit to win Porsche Grand Prix 2019 at Stuttgart, Germany.

India Finishes At 8th Spot in Asian Wrestling Championship 2019

India finishes at 8th Spot with a total of 16 medals which includes one gold, six silver and nine bronze in the Asian Wrestling Championship 2019 held in Xian, China from April 23 to Aril 28.

Bajrang Punia Wins Gold Medal by defeating Kazakhstan’s Sayatbek Okassov.

Rio Olympics bronze medallist Sakshi Malik and Asian Games champion Vinesh Phogat won a bronze medal.

The top three places in the point table are occupied by Iran, China and Japan.

Former Indian Footballer Pungam Kannan Passed Away

Former India footballer Pungam Kannan known as the ‘Pele of Asia’ passes away at age 80 years.

He played 14 matches for India & was the former Mohun Bagan & East Bengal forward and represented the country at the 1966 Bangkok Asian Games and 1968 Meredeka Cup before retiring in 1982.

He won Santosh Trophy for Bengal twice in a row (1971-73).
