International Workers Memorial Day

The International Workers Memorial Day is observed all over the world on April 28 to remember the workers who were killed, disabled, injured or made unwell by their working environment and also take action to ensure that such tragedies are not repeated.

The day is also known as Workers’ Memorial Day, International Commemoration Day (ICD) for Dead and Injured or Day of Mourning.

The Theme for 2019 is “taking control – removing dangerous substances from the workplace”.

World Day for Safety and Health at Work

The World Day for Safety and Health at Work (WDSHW) was observed by the International Labour Organization (ILO) to promote safe work and awareness about work-related accidents and diseases.

The theme for 2019 is “Safety and Health and the Future of Work”.

China Hosted Second Belt and Road Forum in Beijing

The second edition of Belt and Road Forum (BRF) was held in Beijing, China from April 25th to April 27th, 2019. The Belt and Road Forum is a part of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

The belt and Road Initiative is the China’s effort to increase its global influence through the construction of rail, sea and other transportation routes running from Asia to Europe and Africa.

The theme of this event was “Belt and Road Cooperation: Shaping a Brighter Shared Future”.

Canara Bank and Canara HSBC OBC Life Launched ‘Webassurance’

On 27th April 2019, Public sector lender Canara Bank and its life insurance partner Canara HSBC Oriental Bank of Commerce Life Insurance launched ‘Webassurance’.

‘Webassurance’ will enable the bank’s customer to purchase life insurance products from the bank’s website and address their financial needs in a completely paperless manner.

As per the initiative, four life insurance products of Canara HSBC OBC Life would be offered to the customers of Canara Bank.

Aegon Life and Mobikwik Launch A Smart Digital Insurance Product

Aegon Life Insurance and MobiKwik have joined hands to launch an Rs 20 smart digital insurance product to enable financial inclusion and ease of buying for the Indian customers.

The assorted insurance product is called as Aegon Life Group Term Plus Plan with both death and accidental disability benefit, available exclusively on MobiKwik App.

The plan can be purchased by paying as little as Rs 20 in premium for a sum assured of Rs 2 lakhs which includes term insurance and accidental disability.

Mizoram Kid Who Rushed Injured Chick to Hospital Wins PETA Compassionate Kid Award

Mizoram based 6 year old boy, Derek C Lalchhanhima has been awarded the ‘Compassionate Kid’ award by PETA India in recognition of his concern for animals.

He accidentally run over a baby chick with his bicycle and acted immediately to save the bird. He rushed it to the nearby hospital with all the money he had (Rs.10) for its medical treatment.

Abhishek Verma Wins Gold in 10m Air Pistol in ISSF World Cup 2019

On 27th April 2019, Indian shooter, Abhishek Verma won the gold medal in 10m air pistol at the ISSF World Cup 2019 at Beijing, China. He clinched the top spot with a total score of 242.7.

Russia’s Artem Chernousov took silver with a total of 240.4 points while Korea’s Seungwoo Han finished with a bronze after shooting 220.0 in the final.

Badminton Asia Championships 2019

The 2019 Badminton Asia Championships was held at Wuhan Sports Center Gymnasium in China from 23 to 28 April 2019.
