ICMR Launches ‘MERA India’ to Eliminate Malaria from India By 2030
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has launched the ‘Malaria Elimination Research Alliance (MERA) India’ to prioritize, plan and scale up research to eliminate the disease from India by 2030.
MERA India is a conglomeration of partners working on malaria control and it was launched on the occasion of the World Malaria Day 2019.
Finance Ministry approves 8.65% interest on EPF for 2018-19
The Finance Ministry has approved 8.65 % of interest on Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) for 2018-19 as decided by retirement fund body EPFO (Employees Provident Fund Organisation).
It will benefit more than 6 crore formal sector workers.
ABU Media Summit on Climate Action and Disaster Preparedness Begins in Nepal
The 5th Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Media Summit on Climate Action and Disaster Preparedness began in Kathmandu, Nepal on 25th April 2019.

RBI Introduces New Rs 20 Denomination Banknotes
On 26th April 2019, The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that it will shortly issue Rs 20 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series bearing the signature of Shaktikanta Das, Governor of Reserve Bank of India.
The new denomination has the motif of Ellora Caves on the reverse, depicting the country’s cultural heritage.
The base colour of the note is Greenish Yellow. The dimension of the banknote will be 63 mm x 129 mm.
IRDAI Forms Panel to Review Microinsurance Framework
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) form a panel to review the regulatory framework on microinsurance and recommend measures to boost demand for insurance products.
The 13-member panel is headed by IRDAI Executive Director Suresh Mathur and has representatives from life, general and health insurance companies in the public and private sectors.

Indian Army Signs MoU with NHPC for Construction of Tunnels on China, Pakistan Borders
On 25th April 2019, Indian Army signed a MoU with National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (NHPC) to construct tunnels on borders with China and Pakistan for storage of ammunition and other war-related equipment.
Under the project, three tunnels will be built on China border while one will be built along the Line of Control with Pakistan.

Rana Dasgupta Wins Tagore Literary Prize 2019
The second edition of Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize was awarded to author Rana Dasgupta for his 2010 novel “Solo” which is a tale of estrangement and the ultimate failure of material existence.
The award includes an amount of $10,000, a Tagore statue and a certificate for contribution to literature.

Australia’s Claire Polosak Becomes First Woman Umpire to Stand in Men’s ODI
Australia’s Claire Polosak officiate the final of the ICC World Cricket League Division 2 between Namibia and Oman at Windhoek, Namibia on 27th April 2019.

India won 13 medals in Asian Boxing Championships 2019
