World Intellectual Property Day is observed annually on 26 April to raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact on daily life and to celebrate creativity and innovation.

ICMR Launches Pilot Project to Offer Motorbike-Borne Medical Assistance

On 25th April 2019, The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) launched “Mission DELHI (Delhi Emergency Life Heart-Attack Initiative)”, an emergency medical service in a radius of 3 kms around All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Under the pilot project a motorbike-borne assistance unit can be quickly summoned for a person suffering heart attack or chest pain.

Customs Puts Up Standees of Wild Animals At IGI To Create Awareness on Illegal Trade

The customs department and WWF-India have installed life-sized standees of animals like snow leopard, pangolins, greater one-horned rhino and Asian elephant at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi to create awareness about illegal wildlife trade.

Also displayed the list of prohibited wildlife species to ensure the travelers as well as Customs officials to aware that the possession or trade of wildlife species is punishable in India.

Japan Creates First Artificial Crater on Asteroid

Japanese scientists have succeeded in creating the first-ever artificial (man-made) crater on an asteroid, a step towards shedding light on how the solar system evolved.

Hayabusa2 probe fired an explosive device at the Ryugu asteroid to blast a crater in the surface and scoop up material to reveal more about the origins of life on Earth.

NASA’s Deep Impact probe succeeded in creating an artificial crater on a comet in 2005, but only for observation purposes.

Etihad Becomes First Major Airline to Fly Plastic-Free

UAE based flag carrier, Etihad Airways has become the first major airline in the Gulf region to operate a flight without any single-use plastics on board to raise awareness about pollution on Earth Day.

As part of its pledge to reduce single-use plastics usage by 80% across the entire organization by the end of 2022.

Benny Antony Conferred With National IP Award 2019

Dr. Benny Antony, Joint Managing Director of Kochi-based Arjuna Natural Ltd has been honoured with the National Intellectual Property Award 2019 in the category of Top Individual for Patents and Commercialization in New Delhi.

Also Antony is honoured with the ‘WIPO Medal for Inventors’ by the National IP Award, the Intellectual Property Office India and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

Antony is the inventor of BCM-95, the world’s leading patented turmeric extract formulation, with over 80 international patents to his credit.

Former Army Chief Dalbir Suhag Appointed As High Commissioner of India in Seychelles

On 25th April 2019, Former Army chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag has been appointed as India’s next high commissioner to Seychelles.

Suhag took charge as the Army Chief on July 31, 2014 and retired on December 31, 2016.

Mini Ipe Becomes First Woman Zonal Manager of LIC

Mini Ipe has been appointed as the Zonal Manager of Life Insurance Corporation of India for South Central Zone (Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka).

She has become the first woman zonal manager (in-charge) of LIC.

Before this, she has worked as Executive Director (International Operations) of LIC.

Researchers Create Artificial Mother-of-Pearl using Bacteria

Scientists at the University of Rochester in the US have invented an inexpensive and environmentally friendly method for making artificial nacre using bacteria.

The artificial nacre also known as mother-of-pearl is made of biologically produced materials and has the toughness of natural nacre, while also being stiff and bendable.

The method used to create the novel material could lead to new applications in medicine, engineering and even constructing buildings on the moon in future.

India Wins Two Gold At ISSF World Cup

India won gold each in 10 metres Air Rifle Mixed Team and 10 metres Air Pistol Mixed team events in the ISSF World Cup 2019 in Beijing.

Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary defeated Jiang Ranxin and Pang Wei of China to attain the top spot in the 10 metres Air Pistol Mixed Team event.

Anjum Moudgil and Divyansh Singh Panwar won gold in the 10 metres Air Rifle Mixed Team event by defeating Chinese pair of Liu Ruxuan and Yang Haoran.

Pankaj Advani wins inaugural Asian Snooker Tour title

On 25th April 2019, India’s ace cueist Pankaj Advani defeated Ehsan Heydari Nezhad of Iran 6-4 to claim the inaugural Asian Snooker Tour title 2019 in Bengaluru.
