World Book Day also known as World Book and Copyright Day, or International Day of the Book is celebrated every year on April 23 to promote reading, publishing, and copyright.

LSE Names A Professorship After Economist Amartya Sen

The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) created a new academic position in honor of philosopher and economist Amartya Sen.

The new academic position called “Amartya Sen Chair in Inequality Studies” which facilitates interdisciplinary work on subjects related to inequality. Its holder will also serve as Director of the LSE International Inequalities Institute.

The Nobel laureate served as a professor in the economics department at the institute from 1971-82.

SBI General Insurance launches Cyber Defence Insurance

SBI General Insurance (SBIG) has launched a new insurance product named Cyber Defence Insurance to protect businesses from financial and reputational losses due to cyber attacks.

The new insurance plan of SBI General Insurance comes with CyRUSS (Cyber Risk Underwriting and Solution Suite).

CyRUSS is a cloud-based tool for commercial cyber polices including risk assessment, ongoing risk management and claim management.

SBI Launches Green Car Loan to Promote Use of Electric Vehicles

On 22nd April 2019, State Bank of India launched India’s first ‘Green Car Loan’ (Electric Vehicle) to encourage customers to buy electric vehicles.

SBI green car loan (electric vehicle) scheme would encourage customers to switch to electric vehicles which can improve overall air quality and lower carbon emissions.

India ranks 19th in Index of Cancer Preparedness

India was ranked 19th out of 28 countries, with a score of 64.9 in the 2019 Index of Cancer Preparedness (ICP) released by Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

ICP was topped by Australia followed by Netherlands and Germany.

The aims of the ICP are to allow benchmarking of national efforts and identify best practice in addressing the cancer challenge.

The ICP explores the issue of cancer preparedness in three domains namely policy and planning, care delivery and health systems and governance.

Non-Independent Director Nasim Zaidi Quits Jet Airways Board

On 22nd April 2019, Jet Airways announced that its non-executive and non-independent director Nasim Zaidi has quit the board, citing personal reasons and time constraints.

Zaidi, the former Chief Election Commissioner and ex- civil aviation secretary joined the Jet Airways board in 2018.


Fabio Fognini Claim First ATP Masters 1000 Title in Monte-Carlo

Fabio Fognini claimed his first ATP Masters 1000 title by defeating Dusan Lajovic of Serbia in Monte-Carlo Masters tennis tournament held at France. He defeated Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals.

He became the first Italian to clinch Monte Carlo Masters title in more than 50 years. Last time an Italian player Nicola Pietrangeli won the trophy in 1968.
