International Jazz Day
International Jazz Day is celebrated annually on April 30 to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe.
The day is declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in 2011.

Japan’s New Emperor Naruhito Ascends Chrysanthemum Throne
On 1st May 2019, Emperor Naruhito formally ascended the Chrysanthemum Throne as the 126th Emperor of Japan after his father Emperor Akihito abdicated on 30th April 2019, marking the end of the Heisei era.
Akihito became the first Japanese Emperor to step down from the throne in more than 200 years.
As Emperor Naruhito ascends to the throne new imperial era of Reiwa, meaning “beautiful harmony” begins in Japan.
US Withdraws from UN Arms Trade Treaty
US President Donald Trump stated that his administration is withdrawing the U.S. signature from the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty in response to concerns from gun rights activists that it could impinge on Americans right to bear arms.
Former US President Barack Obama signed the treaty in 2013 to regulate the sale of weapons between countries and sent the treaty to the Senate for ratification.

SEBI Bans NSE for 6 Months for its Co-Location Scam
Markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has barred National Stock Exchange (NSE) from accessing the securities market for a period of six months for the misuse of its co-location facility.
The regulator has also directed to pay Rs 624.89 crore along with an interest of 12 per cent per annum to the Sebi’s Investor Protection and Education Fund (IPEF).

India Ratings & Research Lowers Growth Forecast for 2019-20 to 7.3%
A Fitch Group Company, India Ratings & Research has lowered the country’s growth forecast for the current fiscal to 7.3%, from the earlier projection of 7.5 %.
The growth forecast is lowered due to below normal monsoon prediction, continued agrarian distress and loss of momentum in industrial output.
Paytm Launches Recurring Payments Service for Online Merchants
Paytm has launched a recurring payment service for online merchants that are working on a digital subscription model.
The feature will automatically allow subscription based businesses to effortlessly collect recurring payments from its users.
Recurring payments are an automatic payment system wherein the merchants automatically charge their customers for a specified service on a pre-arranged schedule.
Bharti AXA Ties Up With Wishfin to Offer Policies via WhatsApp
On 30th April 2019, Bharti AXA General Insurance has tied up with financial marketplace Wishfin’s insurance arm Wishpolicy to offer two-wheeler insurance to customers via WhatsApp.
This service is first time in India and it is an instant and additional customer service option for policyholders.
Iraq Becomes India’s Top Oil Supplier in 2018-19
Iraq has become India’s top crude oil supplier for the second consecutive year, meeting more than one-fifth of the country’s oil needs in the 2018-19.
According to data collected by the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics, Iraq sold 46.61 million tonnes of crude oil to India during April 2018 and March 2019.
India provisionally imported 207.3 million tonnes of crude oil in 2018-19, down from 220.4 million tonnes in the previous financial year.

Indian Ambassador Navdeep Suri presented the coffee Table book titled Work of Beauty: Architecture and Landscape of Rashtrapati Bhawan to UAE Minister of Tolerance Sheikh Nahayan Mubarak Al Nahayan.
The book was presented at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2019, Abu Dhabi on 30th April 2019.
The book has been published by Publications Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
G Sathiyan Becomes First Indian to Get into Top 25 of ITTF Rankings
Indian table tennis player Sathiyan Gnanasekaran has become the first Indian to rank in the top 25 rankings of International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) rankings.
He rose four spots to be 24th in the latest ITTF rankings, following his impressive sixth place finish in the Asia Cup in Yokohama, Japan on April 2019.
