International Day for Monuments and Sites

World’s Tallest Indoor Waterfall Launched at Singapore’s Changi Airport
On 17th April 2019, The Singapore’s Changi Airport, officially opened the world’s tallest indoor waterfall named as, HSBC Rain Vortex which is 130-foot-tall and can channel 10,000 gallons of water per minute in its new hub known as ‘Jewel’.
The Jewel Changi Airport is about $1.3 billion dollar project, connecting three of the four terminals at Changi Airport.
The state of the art Jewel Changi features the most attractive indoor waterfall in addition to botanical gardens, 280 retail and food outlets, a cinema, as well as a hotel.
The Singapore’s Changi Airport which has been named “world’s best airport” for seven consecutive years by Skytrax.
Saudi Arabia to Host G20 Summit in 2020
Saudi Arabia announced that it will host the annual G20 leader’s summit on November 21-22, 2020 in its capital Riyadh. This would be the first G20 summit in the Arab world.
Japan will host this year’s G20 summit in Osaka, which will be held June 28-29, 2019.

IMF & World Bank Launches “Learning Coin” to Educate Staff about Blockchain
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank have launched their own private blockchain and digital currency network to familiarize staff with the concepts of cryptographic assets such as Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH).
The new pseudo-token has been named as “Learning Coin” and has no real value. These coins will only be accessible within the organizations and will not be able to buy real-world goods and services.

Reliance Industries (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani has featured in the TIME magazine’s list of 100 most influential people. He was named among the Most Influential Titans.

Nepal Launches Its First Ever Satellite into Space
On 18th April 2019, Nepal successfully launched its first ever satellite NepaliSat-1 into space from Virginia in the United States.
It is a low orbit satellite which will be in the 400-km distance from the Earth’s surface to collect information about the country’s topography and Earth’s magnetic field.
The satellite developed by two Nepali scientists Aabhas Maskey and Hariram Shrestha under the BIRDS project at Japanese Kyushu Institute of Technology.
Sri Lanka’s First Satellite ‘Raavana-1’ Launched into Space
Sri Lanka’s first satellite ‘Raavana-1’ was launched into space from NASA’s Flight Facility on Virginia’s east shore in the United States.
‘Raavana 1’ weights around 1.05 kg is expected to orbit 400 km away from earth and the lifespan of the satellite is around one and a half years.
Its camera mission is to capture images of Sri Lanka and its neighbouring countries.
The satellite was designed and built by two Sri Lankan research engineers Tharindu Dayarathna and Dulani Chamika under the BIRDS project at the Kyushu Institute of Technology in Japan by two Sri Lankan research engineers.
